The practice

How we practise

The principles behind every recommendation we make — written down so you can hold us to them.

Interior of the myORTHODONTIST Coquitlam treatment area with orthodontic chairs and equipment.

CoquitlamBraces.com is the educational site of myORTHODONTIST Coquitlam. We wrote it because the questions families ask in the chair — how long, does it hurt, what can she eat, what will it cost — deserve better answers than a brochure, and because a practice that explains its reasoning in public is easier to trust.

Specialist diagnosis on every case

Every plan here is designed and supervised by a certified specialist in orthodontics — a dentist who completed two to three further years of accredited residency in tooth movement and facial growth. Your general dentist remains the quarterback of your oral health throughout; we handle this one discipline, deeply, and coordinate with them at the start, during treatment and at the finish.

Every option, honestly compared

We fit metal, ceramic and self-ligating braces and the full Invisalign family, which means we have no inventory reason to steer you. When aligners will do the job, we say so. When a case needs the control of fixed braces, we say that too — including to teenagers who were hoping otherwise.

Timing over intervention

Children are assessed around age seven and, most of the time, monitored rather than treated. Early treatment has specific indications — crossbites, narrow arches, harmful habits, airway concerns, trauma-risk overjets — and we reserve it for those. Free monitoring visits until the right moment are part of how we work.

Airway-aware assessment

We screen breathing, sleep and jaw development alongside tooth position at every consultation, because the three are connected. Sometimes that changes the plan; often it confirms that a conventional approach is right. Either way, we look.

Cost that doesn't block care

Fees in writing before anything is bonded, with every included item listed. Monthly payment plans arranged directly through our office. Direct billing to your insurer. And support for Smiles Change Lives, which provides treatment to children whose families could not otherwise afford it. The cost guide has the numbers; our orthodontists has the people.

How it works at our practice

A typical week: seven-year-olds in for a first look, nine-year-olds in expanders and twin blocks, teenagers at six-week adjustments choosing colours, adults in aligners between meetings, debond days, retention checks, and a second opinion or two. Records first, always; every option priced side by side; retainers inside every fee.

Frequently asked questions

Are you a specialist practice?

Yes — every plan is designed and supervised by a Certified Specialist in Orthodontics.

Do you push early treatment?

We believe in guiding growth when the pattern is skeletal and say 'not yet' to everyone else. Most seven-year-olds leave with a recall date.

Do you fit both braces and Invisalign?

Both, plus the child and teen aligner systems — so the case decides, not the inventory.

Are consultations free?

Yes: examination, records and a written plan. Monitoring visits for children too.

The bottom line

Specialist-led, every option on the table, growth guided when it's indicated, airway screened every time, fees in writing with retainers included, and a partnership with your dentist. Hold us to it.

A closer look: how a plan gets designed here

After the consultation, the specialist sits with the records — scan, both X-rays, photographs — and works through a sequence: the pattern, the goals, the movements that achieve them, the appliance that makes those movements most predictably, the order, the time, the retention. For aligner cases that becomes a digital simulation refined tooth by tooth; for braces, a bracket prescription and a wire sequence; for a child, an appliance and a growth timeline. The plan comes back to you with the reasoning, priced beside its alternative. The appliance is chosen last, not first.

Our relationship with the dentists of the Tri-Cities

Many of our patients arrive by referral from general dentists in Coquitlam, Port Moody and Port Coquitlam, and we regard those relationships as the backbone of the practice. Your dentist is the quarterback of your oral health; we're the specialists they call on for one discipline. We send findings and plans back promptly, coordinate sequencing when dental work and orthodontics overlap, and never treat a referral as a patient to be kept. When a case sits within a dentist's range, we say so and send it back.

Gladly, and we send findings back. We also see patients who book directly.

Mon and Wed 8–5; Tue and Thu 9–4; alternating Fri 8–4 and Sat 8–5; Sun closed.

Are consultations free?

Yes — examination, records and a written plan.

Misconceptions we correct most often

“A network practice means a call centre.”

It means a local team with shared standards and a colleague to consult on complex cases.

“You'll recommend the most expensive option.”

We price options side by side and often recommend the cheaper one.

“Airway-aware means selling expanders.”

It means screening everyone and treating the structural part only where it's indicated.

A closer look: how we measure ourselves

Not by case volume, though ours is high. By the proportion of seven-year-olds who leave with a recall date rather than an appliance — we want that high. By the proportion of teenage cases finished without extractions — high too. By how often referring dentists send the next patient and how often patients send a sibling. By how rarely a fee changes after it's quoted. And by whether a family could explain their own treatment plan to a friend, which is the standard every page on this site is written to.

The team, and the languages we speak

Our treatment coordinators — Adrienne, Amit and Beata — handle options, fees, insurance and payment plans; our certified dental assistants do much of the hands-on work at every visit. Between us we speak English, Tagalog, Polish, Spanish, Punjabi, Farsi, Vietnamese and Mandarin. Meet the team.

Technology, in proportion

We have iTero digital scanners, CBCT 3D imaging, a soft-tissue laser, digital photography and AI-assisted analysis — what each does — plus the low-profile brackets and heat-activated wires. We mention them last because every credible clinic has them and because none of them replaces the diagnosis. A scanner produces a beautiful model of a bite it can't interpret; the interpretation is the specialist's job, and it's what the training and the cases are for.

Before you go

Meet the two of us, read the FAQ, and book the free consultation. We'd rather you came having read a good deal, and we've tried to make sure there's a good deal to read.

Start with an examination

Your first visit is free, and it comes with an honest answer.

We'll look at the bite, take the records that make a real diagnosis possible, and tell you plainly whether braces are the right tool — what it would involve, how long it would take, and what it would cost, in writing. If the right answer is "not yet," we'll say that too and see you again when the timing is right.
