Retain — the node that never quite ends, and the one Vivera was built for.
Vivera retainers are Invisalign's precision retainers: made from a digital scan of your finished teeth, in a durable clear material engineered to hold its shape, and supplied as a multi-set series rather than a single pair. They're our go-to retention for braces and aligner patients alike, included in the treatment fee. A bonded lower wire is available case by case where the way your teeth moved calls for extra insurance.
Why we chose Vivera
- Precision fit. Made from the same kind of scan your treatment was planned on, so they hold the exact finished position rather than an approximation from an impression.
- Durability. A thicker, more resilient material than standard clear retainers — designed to resist the cracking and clouding that retire ordinary retainers within a year or two.
- A series, not a single pair. Multiple sets from one scan. When a set wears, cracks, or goes missing at a sleepover, the next one comes out of the drawer the same night — no gap, no drift, no clinic visit.
- Consistency for aligner patients. The same look and feel as the trays they've worn for a year, which makes the nightly habit an easy continuation.
When we add a bonded wire
Some teeth are more eager to drift than others — lower incisors that were severely crowded, spaces that were closed, rotations that were corrected. Where the way your teeth moved calls for it, we add a thin bonded wire behind the lower front teeth as a second layer of insurance under the Vivera retainer. It's a case-by-case decision, explained at debond, and it doesn't replace the nightly retainer — it backs it up.
The routine
Near-full-time wear for the first months after debond, when the ligaments pull hardest; then nightly, indefinitely. Rinse when they come out; brush gently with clear soap, never toothpaste; soak a few times a week; never hot water; always the case. Rotate through the series as sets wear, and keep the unused ones sealed. Retention checks through the first year are included; your dentist checks retention at cleanings after that.
Frequently asked questions
Are Vivera retainers included in the fee?
Yes — the series is part of every treatment fee at our practice.
How long does a Vivera set last?
Longer than standard clear retainers; rotate to the next set when one clouds, cracks or loosens.
Do I still need a bonded wire?
Only where the case calls for it — we'll tell you at debond.
Can I get Vivera retainers if I had braces, not Invisalign?
Yes — they're made from a scan of your finished teeth regardless of appliance.
