Invisalign: is it the right choice for you?

Updated and expanded from our original article. A four-question honesty test before you fall for the marketing.

Young patient gently seating a clear orthodontic aligner over her upper teeth.

Invisalign is a superb treatment — when the case suits plastic and the wearer suits the routine. Four questions decide it:

1. Is your case an aligner case?

Crowding, gaps and mild-to-moderate bite issues respond beautifully. Severe rotations, big bite corrections and some vertical movements are harder for aligners; we'll tell you where your case sits, sometimes proposing a hybrid plan. Only records answer this — which is what the free consultation and 3D scan are for.

2. Will you really wear them 20–22 hours a day?

Out for meals and brushing, in for everything else, every day, for the whole treatment. Adults usually manage easily. Teens vary — Invisalign Teen adds wear indicators, but no indicator wears the trays for you. If honest self-assessment says no, braces will get a better result.

3. Does your lifestyle fit?

Frequent grazers and all-day-coffee sippers fight the routine (anything but water means trays out, teeth brushed, trays in). Meeting-heavy professionals, athletes and musicians usually love it.

4. Does the quote include everything?

Most real cases need a refinement round of extra trays, and every case ends with retainers. Both belong inside the price — Coquitlam range is typically $4,500–$8,500. Full breakdown: the cost guide; full treatment detail: the Invisalign guide.

Score four yeses and Invisalign is likely a great fit — book the free consultation and see your own digital simulation before committing to anything.

How it works at our practice

At the free consultation we run exactly these four questions with you: the scan tells us whether the case suits plastic, the wear-time conversation happens with the patient in the room, the lifestyle fit is discussed honestly, and the written fee includes refinements and retainers. If the answers point to braces, we say so.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I'm a good Invisalign candidate?

Mild-to-moderate crowding, spacing or bite issues, healthy gums, and a realistic 22-hour routine. The scan confirms the first part; honesty confirms the rest.

Is Invisalign worth it?

For the right case and wearer, absolutely. For the wrong case, braces would have been faster and cheaper.

Can I see what my teeth will look like?

Yes — the digital simulation at the consultation, before you commit.

What if Invisalign doesn't work for me?

We switch to braces early. Sooner beats a stalled case.

Start with an examination

Your first visit is free, and it comes with an honest answer.

We'll look at the bite, take the records that make a real diagnosis possible, and tell you plainly whether braces are the right tool — what it would involve, how long it would take, and what it would cost, in writing. If the right answer is "not yet," we'll say that too and see you again when the timing is right.
